Ջովանինոն շատ էր սիրում ճանապարհորդել:   Ճամփորդեց-ճամփորդեց, մի օր էլ հայտնվեց այնպիսի երկրում, որտեղ ոչ մի սուր բան չկար: Տներն այդ երկրում կառուցված  էին առանց սուր անկյունների, նրանք կլոր էին:  Շենքերի տանիքներն էլ էին կլոր: Ճանապարհի կողքին, որտեղով քայլում էր Ջովանինոն, թփերի ու վարդերի պուրակ կար: Ջովանինոն  որոշեց մի վարդ քաղել և զարդարել իր   բաճկոնը: Նա   զգուշությամբ ուզում էր պոկել վարդը, որպեսզի մատը չծակի, բայց տեսավ, որ վարդը փուշ չունի, ուրեմն՝  իր մատը չի ծակի:  Այդ ժամանակ թփերի ետևից հայտնվեց քաղաքային պարեկը և ժպտալով հարցրեց Ջովանինոյին.

-Դուք երևի չգիտե՞ք, որ չի  կարելի վարդ քաղել:

-Ներեցեք ինձ … ես չմտածեցի,  որ…

-Այդ դեպքում Դուք պետք է վճարեք տուգանքի կեսը,- ասաց պարեկը և սկսեց գրել անդորրագիրը:
Ջովանինոն  հանկարծ նկատեց, որ պարեկի գրիչը սուր չէ, և խնդրեց ցույց տալ այն:

– Խնդրեմ ,- ասաց պարեկը և մեկնեց գրիչը:

Գրիչը, ինչպես նաև պարեկի  թուրը , ամենևին սուր չէին , դրանք բութ էին բութ:

– Սա ի՞նչ երկիր է, այստեղ ամեն ինչ տարորինակ է:

Այստեղ ոչ մի սուր բան չկա,- բացատրեց պարեկը:

-Իսկ մե՞խը,- հարցրեց Ջովանինոն,- չէ ՞ որ այն պետք է սուր լինի:

-Մենք մեխ չենք օգտագործում: Մեխի փոխարեն սոսինձ ենք օգտագործում:  Իսկ հիմա բարի եղեք ինձ երկու անգամ ապտակել:

Զարմանքից Ջովանինոյի բերանը բաց մնաց.

-Ո՛չ, ո՛չ, ի՞նչ եք ասում, ես չեմ ուզում հայտնվել բանտում, եթե այդպես է, ես պատրաստ  եմ  երկու ապտակ ստանալ:

-Բայց մեզ մոտ այդպես է ընդունված. լրիվ տուգանքը՝ չորս ապտակ, կեսը՝ երկու,- պատասխանեց պարեկը:

-Երկու ապտակ պարեկի՞ն:

-Այո՛:

-Բայց դա իրավացի չէ, այդպես չի կարելի:

-Իհարկե արդարացի չէ. այդպես չի՛ կարելի :

-Իհարկե արդարացի չէ, և որպեսզի այդպես չլինի, ոչ ոք օրենքը չի խախտում: Դե,  ես սպասում եմ. տվեք ինձ երկու ապտակ և մյուս ան□ամ ավելի զգույշ եղեք:

-Բայց ես չեմ ուզում ձեզ ապտակել:

-Այդ դեպքում ես ստիպված եմ ձեզ առաջարկել լքել մեր երկիրը:

Եվ Ջովանին ստիպված եղավ հեռանալ այն երկրից, որտեղ ոչ մի սուր բան չկար: Բայց նա երազում էր վերադառնալ այնտեղ և ապրել ամենաօրինակելի օրենքներով և ամենադաստիարակված մարդկանց հետ:

Part One

This story is very old. It is not true, but many children like it. A husband and a wife had no children and they were very sad. There were many nice flowers in their garden, and one day they found a little boy in one flower. He was as small as a man’s thumb. They called him Tom Thumb.

Tom’s mother was very happy. She made nice clothes for her boy. He had a green coat and yellow trousers. On his head he had a yellow hat. His mother made little boots for him. Tom liked his clothes. But he wanted a sword and a shield. He wanted to be a soldier. Mother gave him a needle for a sword and a button for a shield.
One day he went for a walk. He met two men. He did not know them.

Part Two

The men said to him: “You can help us. We found some gold. Help to get it and then we can share the gold”. Tom was very happy. He wanted to give the gold to his parents, because they were very poor. The two men took him to a house. The house had a window with bars.

“You are very small”, they said, “You can get through the bars. There are many gold coins in the house. Take the coins and come back. Then we can share them”.
Tom got into the room and brought the coins to the window. When he finished he said to them:
“Now, take me down, please”. But the men didn’t take him down. They laughed and ran away. Tom began to cry.

There were some trees near the window. Tom climbed down one of the trees and fell on the ground. One of the coins was there. “This is my gold”, Tom said. “I shall take it. I shall give it to my parents. They will be very happy”. He took the coin home and gave it to his parents. But the gold coins belonged to the King. The next day the King went to the house, but there were not any gold coins there. “Send my soldiers to find the gold”, the King ordered. The soldiers came to Tom’s house and found the gold coin there. They took Tom’s parents to the King. “These people took your gold”, they said.
Tom went to the King and told him about the two men. Soon the Kings soldiers found the men. The King got his gold and punished the men. He didn’t punish Tom. Tom went home with his parents. They were very happy.
